I didn’t get to finish my sample. I had a wonderful visit from one of my long distance downline members yesterday. We didn’t get to stamp but chatted the morning away and went to P.F. Changs for lunch. The day started so well!

I started to stamp my sample last evening watching TV. BUT….a big swarm of flying (one day) termites seemed to have landed on our house and I spend the rest of the evening vacuuming up those nasty little suckers. That is the grossest thing ever. I would never live here permanently because of that. They only swarm in May. I had them crawling in my bed!!! Under the covers!!! Let’s just say I am very tired because I didn’t want to go to sleep. I kept watch for new termites to kill.

This morning I got up early to clean up the rest of the termites that crawled out last night. I wanted to have most of them gone before the kids got up! They were as freaked out as I was (I tried not to show it. With Rick gone, I had to be the strong parent.).

My sample is half finished. I hope I will finish it up soon.

  1. Oh my goodness, you poor thing! I couldn’t imagine! Hope you get them all!

  2. I was visiting my sister in Atlanta one weekend when this happened to us! We were both young and single (yes, it was a while ago) so we left the house for the night and stayed in a hotel. It took us ALL day the next day to clean them up- ugh! An experience neither one of us has ever forgotten! So sorry to hear this happened to you!

  3. Way to be a strong parent!!! I would be grossed out too.
Thanks for all your inspiration. Looking forward to playing with your sketch this weekend.
    Take care – Glenda

  4. Oh Beate, that is disgusting!!!! I couldn’t have slept either! Gross, gross, gross. I pray they get the heck out soon!

    Hugs,
    Amy

  5. OH that is aweful! I would have had to go to a hotel for the night. I’m way wimpy like that. Good job being strong. I had to be that way with a snake the other day. Didn’t want my 3 yo to see that I was scared to death of it. So hard! Best of luck today with the creepy crawlers. Can’t wait to get a second to try the sketch. -Molly B

  6. It sounds DISGUSTING!!! Good for you for surviving!
    Hope today is happier!

  7. O M G ! Enough said.

  8. Oh my word….yucky…you poor girl…hope it ends for you soon!

  9. ICK…from a fellow termite ‘owner’ 😉 Luckily for us, our swarms have been fairly small, and have stayed in the basement (we’re in NY) and our swarming time is pretty much done now. We’ve got the bait stations all around the house, and no swarm this year, so I feel good about that. Those Terminex commercials always give me the heebie jeebies. Good for you for being ‘brave mom’!! Hope they clear out for good today, and you get your life back…I’m all itchy now…yikes.

  10. AH! Poor thing–I would have been freaked out! It’s amazing the ‘courage’ we can find to help keep our kids feeling safe, huh? Hope the termites stay away today!

  11. Oh my! I have never heard about this – I’m Canada and I don’t believe we have this problem – I would be totally freaked out too!

  12. eeeyike! I’m glad we don’t have that here in South Dakota. I’ve got enough to deal with having rattlesnakes and mountain lions on our property, and spiders give me heart failure!

  13. Gosh, it’s sounds scary just reading your post. I won’t want to experience any of that in real life. You’re so strong. Thank goodness, it’s only in May that those pesty things appear! Hope today is a better day with no flying things!

  14. Oh my goodness Beate. EEK… That is horrible. Glad you got it all cleaned up and hopefully that is the end of it. I could not handle that. ugh…. Get some rest. Great sketch, I will work on that later.

  15. oh my goodness, Beate! I hope they go away FAST! I hate stuff like that! Over here, it’s ant invasions that I have to worry about, but it sounds like the termites are way more invasive.

    HUGS!!!

  16. That’s the creepiest thing to experience. Been there and I feel for ya!

  17. ICK! I hate bugs, well all bugs but the pretty ones like Ladybugs, dragonflies, bumble bees . . . you get the drift. I’d have freaked to have termites in my house. I’m such a wimp that if a spider is too big I’ll pack the kids up and go to the park to avoid having it in the same room with me.

  18. Oh, I’m so sorry—how gross! I hate bugs at all, but in swarms—it would overwhelm me. You are a great mom to play the “tough guy” for your children. Here’s hoping they are gone soon—May is almost over! Hugs~

  19. Oh Beate, du arme…:-) Ich mag keine krabbelnden, schnellen Viehcher… Am schlimmsten sind hier die Nacktschnecken…Igitt…:-) hey…ihr habt schon mehr als ein drittel der Zeit ohne Mann und Papa geschafft…:-) Du bist so stark!

  20. oh ick! I feel for you – I would have been totally creeped out! I’m glad you put up a good front for the kids! I hope you never ever have to see them again!

  21. Sorry to hear, Beate — that’s just gross! You were a very good parent!

  22. Oh no, Beate!! I so sorry you are dealing with this!! Hope they leave soon!! Hugs!

  23. NO WAY!!! I’m so sorry, Beate!! You deserve a HUGE award for what you did!!! I hope your weekend is relaxing…you definitely deserve it!!!

  24. Yikes! I’m freaking out just reading about them! You’re so amazing to be the *strong* parent…I still call my mom when I have troubles! lol! We’ve been fighting the spring ants here in Texas, ugh! Now I saw on the news about these new “crazy ants” in Houston that are quickly spreading across Texas that are impossible to stop and ruin electronic equipment–great–ugh!

  25. Yuck! We have those too. We are in Hawaii, and they come about once a year. It’s so gross. It seems like they fly in on the trade winds which blow right into my bedroom and bathroom. I hate them! I never knew about them until we got here. Where are you located that you get them too? I hope they are all gone now and you’ve been able to get them all vaccuumed up!

  26. OH GOOD GOD I am so sorry to hear that. But your story brings back awful memories. I had this basement apartment and one day I came home from work and all over the kitchen floor were these black things. I had no idea at the time, then I saw them swarming from the baseboard and figured what it was! Boy did I FREAK! I hate bugs in general, I was hysterical. I did the same thing with the vacuum and called the termite people right away and told them to bill the landlord! Sigh… Then at our house when we first moved in they found termites so now we have those traps, but have not seen a swarm!
    SIGH….. I feel your pain.

  27. Oh DANG girl! How yucky! I feel for you! I’m glad we didn’t have that problem when I lived in Cocoa Beach, I would have DIED! Wow, no wonder you couldn’t sleep, lol! I think I might not be able to sleep now, lmbo!

  28. Ohh….hugs, Beate! I don’t do well with bugs!

  29. Yikes! That would give me the creepy crawlies. I feel for you Beate! Up here in Barrow we become sissyfied when it comes to insects. We get misquotes during the summer and occasionally some flies. Beyond that any bugs here come in with freight and then die from the coldness. I’ve been sissyfied… can’t imagine have to come eye to eye with a spider not to mention those termites. YIKES!!!

  30. Urgh, that sounds horrible, – but I know the feeling, we have this with ants here, they pop up and make streets across rooms, over beds, in your cloth….and then we get ant-phobic ….it’s a nightmare….hope it is all over today …. hugs&smiles

  31. Oh girlie! I’ve got the shivers just reading this! Yuck! I have never heard of this before…no wonder you don’t want to stay there long term! I’m always thinking it sounds like such a paradise but this sure blows that thought out of the water! I hope they are all gone. I cannot even imagine dealing with this! Hopefully the rest of your weekend will be uneventful! The sketch this week is fab! Take care…and have a bug free weekend! 🙂

  32. Beate, I don’t remember whether you said this was your house or military housing that you are in, but if you have termites swarming, then it means you have termite damage somewhere in your house. We experienced the same thing when we had a double-wide trailer. My husband found where they entered the house and he had to tear out a fairly large section of wall and we found termite damage in two major support beams of the house. It’s something that you need to look into right away. You won’t believe the damage that termites do to wood. Get it checked out as soon as you can.
