Some of you have asked what kind of cookies I made for Christmas. My Mom used to make at least ten different kinds every year. For me, Spritzgebaeck, were the best. They are highly addictive. I can’t stop eating them when they are around. That’s why we made (and ate) five batches this year.

Incredients:
- 2 sticks of margerine (200 gram)
- 1 1/4 cup of sugar (250 gram)
- 2 eggs
- 3 1/4 cups of flour
- 5 oz. finely ground almonds (125 gram)
- 1/8 teaspoon of cinamon
- 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
Directions:
Sieve flour and baking powder on big work surface into a pile. Press sieve down to create a crater. Add nuts and sugar around the wall. Add Eggs and cinamon in center. Cut margerine in small pieces and place around edges. Knead until you have a smooth dough ball. Put in refrigerator for an hour.
I use an old meat grinder with a special attachment to form the cookies. I am not sure if a cookie press would work because of the almonds.
The dough comes out of the grinder as long straight rows. We cut them in pieces and usually make sticks or circles.
Bake for about 12 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
Let the cookies cool on a cooling rack. Once they are cold, brush half of each cookies with chocolate. I use Gedieva semisweet chocolate for that.
I can’t wait for next Christmas. I LOVE these cookies. I already told the kids we might have a monthly Christmas cookie day. Christmas in January, Christmas in February…..that wouldn’t be bad, would it?

Oh my.. they do look yummy! My mom is German and I’ve never had these cookies.. We always make lebkuchen. I will definitely give these a try next year! Thanks for sharing the recipe!

Mmm, they look good. I might have a try with the cookie press and not too fine a plate in it. Somehow I don’t think the sausage attachment on my mincer would quite work! They sound as if they should be a bit like some of those Danish butter cookies. TFS.

These not only look great but I can almost taste how good they are! No meat grinder here, my mom used to have one. Oh, the things we no longer keep, darn!
Beate, you are absolutely right. They are the BEST. You know I am German too and my Mom always makes at least 10 different kinds of Plaetzchen too, but like in your house the Spritzgebaeck was always gone first. I’ve tried the cookie press, but you have to use the kind of flat attachment and yes, sometimes it gets stuck. The Fleischwolf works so much better and it is like a KitchenAid, it lasts forever :D.

Those look great Beate! I tried my hand at making Lebkuchen this year, and they turned out pretty good! So glad you had a wonderful Christmas with your dh home again!! And guess if I’m going to meet up wtih you it will have to be this year – if I even make it to Florida with the new little one.

These sound wonderful and look like a cookie my mother used to make when I was little, but I am confused with the recipe in the ingredients you have 1/2 tsp baking powder but in the directions you mention baking soda, which would it be if I want to make these to share with my family?

OMG Beate! My mother who is german, uses the exact same type of meat grinder to make some of her Christmas cookies (except in HER recipe, she uses finely ground hazlenuts instead of almonds). And you’re right, they ARE addicting! 🙂

My goodness, not only do you do fabulous cards, but great looking cookies. They do look wonderful. How would you make them without a meat grinder? How many do they make and is it baking powder or soda. Thanks for sharing.

Hi there, I pulled out my Fleischwolf and got started. Recipe calls for 1 stick butter or margarine at 200 gramm, however, l stick is only 113 g.
Since I have already started, I shall use 2 sticks less approx.25 gramm.
Will get back to you when done.

I just got my meatgrinder @amazon ,they also have the cookie attachment.I had to type in cookie attachment otherwise they only show meatgrinders.Can anyone tell me if the spritzgebaeck can also be made with bakers choclate?

I agree these are my favorite Christmas cookies…. my grinder came with about 8 different cookie patterns to press through. The only difference in my recipe is I use unsalted butter instead of the margarine.
Does anyone know where I can but the cookie attachment from? Ours broke and have not been able to make these cookies for some time now.
