I haven’t stamped as much as I wanted this week. Rick is home all week taking an internet course. He has lots of breaks. Lets just say it’s not helping me stamp. LOL

Yesterday I was gone all morning. I took Austin to his preop appointment in the clinic. Seeing the doctor only took a few minutes…after we waited almost an hour for him in a super cold room! Then we were off to see the nurse. After that we sat for over an hour waiting for his meds in the Pharmacy.

I was worn out and frozen solid when we got back. I couldn’t believe how tired I was from just sitting and waiting all morning.

I am not good with seeing blood. My blood pressure drops and I get all whoosy. So Rick took Austin this morning. Please keep Austing in your thoughts. I think his operation is at 9:00 a.m. I know it’s no biggy to get Tonsils and Adnoids removed….but it’s scary to me no less. My baby is being operated on. No matter that my baby measured 5′ 10″ yesterday.

You should have seen all the pain meds they gave him yesterday. Oh my goodness!

Here is another card I made with Julee Tilman’s sketch.

I started with a 4 1/4″ x 8 1/2″ piece of Old Olive cardstock folded in half. It was layered with a 4″ piece of Fall Flower Designer Paper. All four corners were ticket corner punched and the edges were stamped with All in a Row to create the Faux Stitched look.

For the main image, I used a 2 1/2″ square of Confetti white cardstock. I stamped the bottom of the cupcake from Big Bold Birthday in Old Olive. Next I inked up the cupcake top in Soft Sky and kissed it with the background stamp to take the ink off the stamp. Then I lined it up the cupcake bottom and stamped it on the cardstock.

I ticket punched the corners and added three lines of the small happy birthday saying on the left side in Sahara sand. The other three edges were paper pierced.

Next I layered the piece on a 1/4″ bigger piece of Old Olive and again on a 1/4″ bigger piece of Soft Sky cardstock. I added Pewter brads in three of the corners.

For the saying I stamped three candles in Soft Sky on a 1 1/4″ Confetti White circle and stamped Make a Wish in Old Olive over it. It was layered on a 1 3/8″ sponged Sahara Sand Circle and a sponged Soft Sky scallop circle.

I added a Pewter Hodgepodge Hardware ribbon holder to the left of the scallop punch, punched a hole all the way through the card with my eyelet hole punch and tied Gray Taffeta ribbon all the way around.

Last I added Dazzling Diamond Glitter with my Liquid Glue and two small Sahara sand flowers, one on the cupcake and one on the sentiment circle.

  1. Uh! I know how it feels to have your child in surgery! I almost threw up when my son had ear tubes because I was so nervous. And… I’m a pediatric Operating Room nurse — and had all of my coworkers in the room with him. Hope he recovers quickly!

  2. He will be well taken care of, Beate. It’s always harder on mom than the kids. I’ll be thinking of him.

  3. He will always be your baby no matter how big he gets! He’ll be fine. It wont stop you worrying though. That’s what us moms do.

Your cupcake card is beautiful! I especially like how you did the scallop circle with the hodgepodge hardware piece and little flower.

  4. I love the colors. Old olive is one of my all time favorites. I really want the bog bold birthday set and this just confirms that! Very cure card!!!
I will keep your son in my thoughts.

  5. Best wishes to your son for a speedy recovery! I absolutely love this card. Not only is it made with a stamp set that I have wanted since the arrival of the new catty but the colors are wonderful! As always, you rock and inspire!

  6. Aw, geez, between you and Jenn, you guys have sold this set to me! Beautiful card and your son will be fine…mine had his adenoids out when he was 3! Sometimes I think it’s easier when they are little!

  7. I will be thinking of Austin. I hope it all goes smoothly and he recovers quickly. Surgery is no fun no matter who is going in. Colin had plastic surgery when he was just under a year old and even though the surgery was only 10 minutes it was the longest 10 minutes of my life.

This is a gorgeous card! I love this sketch. The candles on the sentiment are perfect.

  8. And a big thank you for adding me to your blog roll!

  9. Amazing card!!! I pray that Austin will get through his surgery like a champ!

  10. Lovely card. Like these colours together and your little flower touches and glitter are so cute. Love the corners too!
I hope Austin recovers quickly! My baby son (16 & also 5′ 10″) had all 4 of his wisdom teeth out in early August and I too felt sick for the whole week before! But he got into the car right after surgery and (jokingly )said, “are we going for fries now?” He had a great recovery as I am sure Austin will too.

  11. Sorry you had such a rotten day yesterday, B . . . hope Austin’s surgery goes well today. My goodnes, he’s grown! Great card, I love the colors and tiny flower accents!

  12. Love this card…………and this set! Really cute with that layout. Any surgery feels like a biggee when it is your child. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

  13. Beate, I love that card. Isn’t the Designer paper amazing esepcially when you use colours that work!! I will definately case this one, if that is ok!

  14. Beautiful card Beate! I love the colors. And yes, regardless of their size, it is still scary when our children have surgery! I’m hoping it all went well!!

    Huggs,

  15. You card is beautifull. I’ll keep you son in my prayers. I know we are worry no matter what. It will be ok.

  16. oh Beate! I’m sure he will be just fine! It’s scary, I know! Last fall Chloe had some minor surgery on her mouth and got knocked out…it was ME who almost passed out…ahha
That card up there is FANTASTIC! I haven’t pulled out All in a Row in a little bit…think it’s time 😉

  17. Thinking of you and yoru family today. Hope that Austin’s surgery goes smoothly and that he has a speedy recovery.

This card is smashing my dear. Love it. How fun to see this stamp set “Beate Style!” Isn’t it SUCH a fun set to work with?

  18. fabulous card! love the colors used, and your attention to detail is fabulous!

  19. Beautiful card — I just love that paper! I hope the surgery went well and that he recovers quickly! A couple of my kids have had to “go under” for surgery — it’s never easy on the mom! 🙂

  20. Another beautiful card! Love the candles with the greeting and the little flowers! Sending well wishes for your sons recovery.

  21. Good luck with everything! My daughter had her tonsils and adenoids out about three years ago. I’m terrible with the discussion of anything medical, so when I saw her coming out of the operating room with all the tubes and other stuff coming out of her, I just about lost it! The nurses pretty much had to take care of me as well as her! She came through it with flying colors though. A couple of days to recover, and your son will be more or less back to normal.

Just make sure you keep the liquids flowing down his throat! It will hurt, but will help SO much in the long run (you don’t want to know what happens if his throat gets dry!)

  22. I will keep your son in my thoughts today. Your card is beautiful!

  23. Sending well wishes to your son! Thank you for all of the hard work you do and for sharing your cards and others with us!

  24. It is amazing how tiring sitting and waiting can be. It is quite an ordeal waiting for your name to be called which in turn builds up anxiety. When you feel as if a sufficient amount of time has passed wondering “what in the world are they doing back there?”!!! I have Austin and your family in my prayers. I know that it’s over by now, but it’s never too late to pray.

This is another fantastic card!!! I’ve decided to make a new term for the “out of this world” gorgeous cards you create, the word is “BEATESIZED”!!! What do you think? It covers a plethora of words and describes exactly what I think, LOL & TFS

  25. Im sorry your week has been rough. Your son will be fine Im sure, it’s always harder on the Mom! He’ll probably be up and about like nothing happened in no time.

This is a fantastic card though, I love it.

  26. Beautiful card Beate! Your “baby” will do just great! Be sure and have plenty of yummy ice cream on hand! Hang in there! Deb

  27. I feel like I haven’t talked to you in ages! LOVE your card. . .it’s gorgeous!

  34. Such a gorgeous card! Love your color combo and all the fabulous details.

  35. I worry over my 6′ 1″ baby all the time. Lord knows what size he’ll be when he grows up, he’s 17 now. We always worry no matter the size or age. I’m praying for a speedy recovery. And what a beautiful card!

  36. What a beautiful card… I loooove that cupcake!

  37. I cannot stop looking at this card!! Love it. I need this set.

  38. Beate, does the bottom of the cupcake have the happy birthday design on it? The one in my catalogue is a solid piece but I noticed it the gallery they all seem to have the writing on it. Which I love way better.
